I am constantly developing my styles and one I keep returning to is a homage to the light of classical painting. Deep colours, an enigma, a return to a time when there were still unknowns and there was much left to explore. This selection is taken from images over a 3 to 4 year period when the style (which is not HDR) but simply balancing the dynamic range more organically, to produce something which is some way towards the way a painter captures a scene and expresses it through layers of ‘mind’s eye’ light – a much more subjective way than a documentary photographer would.
Please note the website images below are all low resolution 1080px wide images, the print ready originals are between 7000-10000px wide and are all very high quality.

I was looking for how to use HDR..and I love what you’ve done with the painting. Unfortunately, Australia wasn’t in my last palm reading..but to dream! Thanks for the inspiration!
Hi Gloria – all of these are not HDR as such. I generally use single frames and adjust the dynamic range by lifting the dark areas and dropping the highlights if required. On some I did blend a top and bottom to control the light but I have never done true HDR (multiple overlapping images using a plugin to combine the ‘best’ areas of each).
Hopefully you can get to Australia one day – when the stars are in alignment đŸ™‚
Best Gary
